East Cornwall Anglican: Historic Faith, New Life

A Potential New Anglican Church for East Cornwall

Gathering locally to pray, plan, and build a lasting Christian presence.

Welcome

East Cornwall Anglican is an initiative exploring the plant of a new, biblically orthodox Anglican congregation rooted directly in Callington and serving the surrounding towns and villages across the Tamar Valley and East Cornwall.

Rather than traveling into Plymouth or across the region to find a confessional, reformational church family, we are gathering people locally to pray, plan, and build a lasting Christian presence right here in the heart of our own community. Whether you have lived in East Cornwall for decades, are newly arrived, or are searching for an authentic expression of the historic Christian faith, we warmly invite you to explore this vision with us.

What Kind of Church?

East Cornwall Anglican seeks to be an authentic, faithful expression of historic Christianity in modern Cornwall.

Part of AMiE & GAFCON

We are planted under the Anglican Mission in England (AMiE), a convocation within the Anglican Network in Europe. This links us formally with GAFCON, standing in full communion with the overwhelming, orthodox majority of faithful Anglicans across the globe.

Historic Faith • New Life

We are an evangelical, Reformed, and complementarian congregation. We believe that true spiritual life comes not from human gimmicks or cultural novelties, but through the faithful proclamation of God’s Word, the reverent celebration of the sacraments, and prayer.

A Parish Mindset

While independent of the institutional structures of the Church of England, we hold a deep pastoral commitment to our civic neighbours, seeking the good of Callington and making the name of Christ known through word and practical mercy.

What We Believe

At the core of our life and preaching is the historic Christian gospel: the good news that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, rose bodily from the grave, and offers full forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life to all who repent and trust in Him.

What is Christianity?

If you are exploring faith for the first time, or looking to refresh your understanding of who Jesus is and what He accomplished, we regularly run Christianity Explored courses to read through Mark’s Gospel together and answer honest questions.

Our Theological Grounding

As Anglicans, our theological grounding is anchored in the historic Anglican Formularies:

  • The 39 Articles of Religion: Upholding biblical doctrines of grace, salvation in Christ alone, and the authority of Holy Scripture.
  • The 1662 Book of Common Prayer & Ordinal: Providing a pattern of reverent, Word-centred corporate worship and pastoral order.

For a full explanation of how these historic standards shape our daily life, doctrine, and liturgical pattern, read more on the AMiE Beliefs & Formularies page.

Connect With Us

We are currently in the initial gathering phase and invite anyone interested in praying for, shaping, or joining this church plant to connect with us.

Who We Are

East Cornwall Anglican

Revd Vincent Murphy

Church Planter

The planting effort is led by Vincent Murphy, an ordained Anglican presbyter living in Callington with his wife Belinda and their family.

Vincent was ordained deacon in 2017 and priest in 2018 under Archbishop Ng Moon Hing (Province of South East Asia). Following years of pastoral and word-ministry experience—both within Anglicanism and local evangelical church life—he operates on a bivocational "tentmaking" model, funding his ministry through secondary mathematics teaching.

Vincent’s conviction is that East Cornwall needs a church firmly anchored in the timeless beauty and doctrinal clarity of the historic Formularies, under orthodox episcopal oversight, committed to expository Bible teaching and practical love for our local town.
